Independence
newsprintpaper.design is an independent educational resource. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by or connected to Newspaper Club, MakeMyNewspaper, Happiedays, Canva, Adobe or any printing company or software vendor mentioned on this site.
Company and product names are used to identify their products factually. Their specifications are reported here with a link to the source they came from. No printer has any input into what these pages say, and none has reviewed or approved them.
Specifications change
Print specifications are not permanent. Printers change presses, revise artwork guidelines and discontinue formats. Every specification page on this site carries the date its figures were read from the printer's own guidelines and links to the source, so you can check whether anything has moved since.
Presses also vary in practice. The margins printers publish exist because paper shifts as it runs, and the tolerance on any given day is not a fixed number. That is why the guidance here is consistently to keep important content well inside the stated margin rather than right up against it.
Always run a test
Before you place an order, generate a PDF and put it through your chosen printer's own preflight check. That check runs against the actual file you intend to send, it catches problems specific to your artwork that no general reference can anticipate, and it is free.
If your printer's preflight disagrees with anything on this site, your printer is right. They know their press. We would also be grateful if you told us, so the figure can be corrected.
No professional advice
Nothing here is professional print production, legal or financial advice. The calculators produce estimates and reference figures to help you plan. Decisions about a print run, and the costs of those decisions, are yours.
The words per page estimate in particular
The words to pages estimator is explicitly an estimate and not a printer specification. It is built from page geometry and two stated conventions about average character width and word length, and it cannot know your typeface, your writing or your layout. Treat its output as a planning figure, not a promise. The methodology page sets out exactly what it assumes.
External links
Links to printers and other resources are provided so you can verify information at source. We are not responsible for the content of external sites, and a link is not an endorsement.
Advertising and affiliate disclosure
This site is free and is funded by advertising. Adverts are served by third parties and are not endorsements.
Some outgoing links may in future earn a commission if you go on to buy something. Where that applies it will be disclosed on the page carrying the link. It will never affect which specifications are published or how a format is described, because the entire point of the site is that the numbers are right.
